North Kona stretches from the south end of Kona town (the neighborhood of Holualoa), winding its way along Ali'i Drive past the airport and beyond to the luxury private club communities of Kohanaiki, Kuki'o, and Hualālai. This is the heart of the Kona coast, the seat of the Big Island's government, and where many of the restaurants and tourist activities can be found on the island, including the Ironman World Championship Triathlon.

The majority of North Kona is built on the slopes of the (thankfully dormant!) Hualālai volcano and the residences and condos here enjoy what is known as "stadium seating" of the Pacific Ocean - it's not hard to find a great blue view with unobstructed shots of the setting sun. Infinity pools are not uncommon, but as you head up the volcano some owners prefer a hot tub instead as it can get a little chilly at night.
